Background of the Study
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education plays a crucial role in preparing students for the challenges of the modern world. However, secondary schools, especially in rural areas, face significant barriers to providing practical STEM education due to limited access to laboratory facilities, equipment, and qualified instructors (Olayemi et al., 2023). AI-based virtual labs offer an innovative solution by simulating real-life experiments and STEM concepts in a digital environment, making them accessible to students regardless of geographic location or resource availability (Jin et al., 2024).
In Lafia LGA, Nasarawa State, implementing AI-powered virtual labs in secondary schools could bridge the gap between students' theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Virtual labs can enable students to engage in STEM activities remotely, enhancing their learning experience and improving their understanding of complex scientific concepts. This study seeks to explore how AI-based virtual labs can enhance STEM education in secondary schools in Lafia LGA, Nasarawa State.
Statement of the Problem
Secondary schools in Lafia LGA, Nasarawa State face challenges in providing adequate STEM education due to a lack of access to physical laboratories and resources. The absence of hands-on experience in STEM subjects limits students' ability to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This study will explore whether AI-based virtual labs can provide a cost-effective and scalable solution to improve STEM education in the region.
